The Programs Manager of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment for Development has condemned the endemic violence against women and girls in South western Uganda.

While addressing Journalists during a press conference at GWEFODE office, Mr Orikiriza Donantus expressed disappointment at the level in which women and young girls are being physically and sexually assaulted through rape, defilement and murder in Kabale district.

He said that the women’s rights situation in Kabale has deteriorated as violence against women and girls has become so widespread. Mr Donantus requested the police to be gender sensitive and speed up investigations into cases of Gender Based Violence and appealed to Women human rights activists to speak out so that culprits are given a befitting judgment which can also serve as a deterrent to many others who engage in such brutal and merciless actions.
