GWEFODE condemns the increasing levels of Sexual and Gender Based Violence South-western Uganda
The operations manager of GWEFODE has condemned the endemic violence against women and girls in South western Uganda. While addressing beneficiaries and local leaders in Rubanda district, Mr Orikiriza Donantus expressed disappointment at the level in which women and young girls are being physically and sexually assaulted through rape, defilement and murder. He said that the women’s rights situation has deteriorated as violence against women and girls has become so widespread. Mr Donantus requested the police to be gender sensitive, responsive and transformative and speed up investigations into cases of Gender Based Violence and appealed to Women human rights activists to speak out so that culprits are given a befitting judgment which can also serve as a deterrent to many others who engage in such brutal and merciless actions.
